What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are custom-made caps that cover damaged or weakened teeth, restoring their size, shape, strength, and overall appearance. At The Dental Suite, we offer the highest quality, aesthetic dental crown materials, including porcelain and zirconia. We are also happy to offer gold crowns upon request.

Dr. Kim may recommend a dental crown for the following:

  • To repair a severely decayed tooth or one with a large filling
  • To repair a chipped, fractured, cracked, worn, or otherwise damaged tooth
  • To strengthen and preserve a tooth after undergoing a root canal treatment
  • To cover a dental implant or support a bridge, restoring your complete smile
  • To close minor gaps or uneven spaces between teeth
  • To improve the size, shape, color, or overall appearance of a tooth

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are aesthetic restorations designed to replace one or more teeth in a row. They typically consist of one or more prosthetic teeth anchored to crowns placed on natural teeth. We offer dental bridges in the same high-quality materials as dental crowns, enhancing the health and beauty of your smile.

Dental bridges offer many aesthetic, oral health, and functional benefits, including the following:

  • They are cost-effective compared to dental implants.
  • They restore your chewing function, allowing you to enjoy more of your favorite foods.
  • They help you speak more clearly and smile confidently.
  • They keep the remaining teeth from tilting and shifting out of place, maintaining the alignment of your teeth and bite.
  • They redistribute the forces of your bite, reducing your risk of tooth wear and fracture as well as TMJ discomfort.
  • They offer a long-term, effective solution to restore your smile.

What Is the Dental Crown and Bridge Procedure?

The dental crown and bridge process usually involves two appointments. When it comes to a crown, Dr. Kim will reshape the damaged tooth to accommodate your restoration. A bridge, on the other hand, requires the reshaping of the two teeth on either side of the gap to support your replacement teeth.

After preparing your teeth, Dr. Kim will take digital impressions, which a dental lab will use to create your new custom crown or bridge. A temporary restoration will protect your tooth or teeth while the permanent one is fabricated.

During an upcoming appointment, Dr. Kim will remove your temporary crown or bridge and bond your permanent one in place. She will make any adjustments needed to ensure optimal function and comfort. Your new restoration will leave you with a beautiful, healthy, and functional smile.
